Throughout history there has been many children’s caricature toys that perpetuate harmful imagery towards ethnic minorities. These have included items such as “golliwogs”, also known as “Gollies”. These dolls were a “representation” of black people with clown like features and extremely dark skin.These items are extremely disturbing and dehumanising. In this series Chandni focuses on the black dolls within her personal collection which contrasts racist caricature toys that are still in circulation.
